Demanding pending payments, I&FCD Contractors sit on relay hunger strike | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Dec 16: As the concerned authorities have allegedly failed to make payments due to the contractors, the people working with Irrigation & Flood Control Department (I&FCD) as contractors have started chain hunger strike in support of their demand of release of pending payments. According to some members of contractors union, after having no response from the concerned senior officials of I&FCD as well as from the concerned Minister they are left with no option and thus started chain hunger strike infront of Office of Executive Engineer, I&FC Rajouri. Contractors including Manzoor Malik, president Contractors Union alleged that since 2011 the department has failed to release their payments on one or another context for the works executed by them. "After September 2014 devastating flash floods department requested the contractors to execute the urgent works of protection walls on war footing on the assurances that soon the payments would be released, they said, adding, "ironically no payments have been made to the contractors till date despite repeated representations to the concerned officials and even to concerned Minister. They claimed that their payment worth Rs2.52 Crores is still pending against the works executed by them in 2011 and this was followed by huge pending payment of RS 10 Crore in 2014 but till date no payment has been released even after a gap of more than 15 months. Superintending Engineer I&FCD briefly said that the matter is already in the notice of higher authorities and the concerned Minister. He hoped that soon their pending payments will be released. |
