Truck load of willow clefts seized, one held | | | Early Times Report Ramban, Dec 16: A team of Forest Division, Batote today arrested one person alongwith 4,000 willow clefts being illegally smuggled during a naka checking at the Forest Check Post, Patnitop last night. The accused has been sent to three days remand by 1st Class Magistrate Batote. Official spokesperson said the accused driver has been identified as Pooran Singh of Basohli. According to DFO, Batote Zahid Aslam Mughal, a team of forest officials led by the Range Officer, S S Chib intercepted a Jammu bound truck bearing regd no: PB11AS 8903 at the Forest Check Post, Patnitop last night. "During search of vehicle the forest sleuths found 4,000 willow clefts being illegally smuggled outside state i.e. from Awantipora to Merut in UP," he said, adding, "unfinished willow clefts meant for cricket bats were found clandestinely covered under wooden boxes containing rotten apples and saw dust. He said that the accused driver Pooran Singh of Basohli was arrested on the spot and the truck was seized. Meanwhile a case stands registered against accused for illegally transporting unfinished willow clefts in contravention of the Section 3 of J&K Willow Act, 2000, official added. He said that the accused was produced infront of 1st Class Magistrate, Batote,Pawan Sharma who later sent the accuse on three days remand. |
