Jammu, Dec 16: Senior state Basketball championship 2015 got underway at MA Stadium here today. The three day championship was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Police, SM Sahai, IPS. He was received by Ranjit Kalra, vice chairman Jammu sports council, Dr. Vikram Handa, General secretary J&K Basketball Association, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, senior vice president, Ashok Singh, treasurer and Amarjit Singh and Aman Sharma, senior coaches of Sports Authority of India. 17 teams in men and women sections are participating in the championship including Army, BSF, J&K Police, Sports Authority of India, Jammu district, Kathua district, Baramulla District and Srinagar district. One the opening day, 9 matches were played which included three women matches. In the first match of the day, Jammu women outplayed their counterparts from Srinagar convincingly 25-14. Srinagar team put up better performance in the second half, but they could not make up for their slackness in the first half. Srinagar men team however put up better showing, bowing down to STC terriers 42-32. Men from valley also exhibited late surge, after trailing 04-20 in the first half. In other matches of the day, STC warriors beat Kathua district 99-48, J&K police beat STC cubs 65-24, 4 Raj Rifles beat BSF Jammu frontier 83-51, STC terriers beat Udhampur district 46-17, STC women Hoopsters beat Srinagar district 43-25 and in the last of the day, STC warriors beat Jammu district 82-64. The matches were officiated by a panel of BFI and state referees, led by Rajinder Magotra, senior SAI coach and BFI referee and included Mohd. Shafi, Basketball coach and BFI referee, Harpreet Singh, BFI referee and Ranbir Singh, Sumit Dogra, Rajesh Bhagat, Rajesh Bandral, Vaneet Pangotra, Vinod Dogra, Sachin Dogra, Shubham Sharma, Abhishek Gupta, Ankita Singh, Sneha Choudhary, Amarpreet Kour. 11 matches shall be played on the second day, and the final shall be played on the 18th of December. |
