State Sports Council tightens noose against 'defunct' associations | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 11: In a bid to make sports bodies more active and regular in holding annual activities, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council has started tightening noose against "defunct" associations. "Presently, there are 54 sports bodies and associations recognised and affiliated with the State Sports Council, but unfortunately some of them are completely non-performers," a senior sports official here told . He said out of the total 54, 25 bodies are from Jammu Province, adding, "so far 14 sports associations have been acknowledged as "defunct" and the process of seeking detailed report on their annual functioning has started. "The official said that initially, notices have been served to J&K Kabaddi Association and J&K Wrestling Association for not holding elections on scheduled period besides holding their regular activities. "Kabaddi Association not only failed in holding elections on time but there were also complaints against some of officials who were misusing the official chair," he asserted. However, wrestling association was also served notice for not being upto the mark in results and completing the required formalities. He further said the funding vis-a-vis financial assistance to the associations other than defunct one, is also suspended unless, the sports bodies does not submit a detailed report and clear about the working of past three years."There will no compromise on any kind of casual approach or leniency towards sports and action will be initiated time to time for better results and performance," he asserted. |
