Early Times Report

Kulgam, Jan 11: An RTI activist from this southern district Sunday filed a written complaint against some contractors and NC activists, alleging therein that he had been attacked by them for "exposing a scam in rural development department".
Dr Bari Abdul Naik of Chadder, Kulagm, alleged that a group of contractors and NC workers attacked him inside the premises of BDO office, Qimoh, and made an attempt to abduct him.
"They snatched my mobile phone, harassed me and ever tried to abduct me in presence of locals RDD employees," he alleged.
Naik claimed that he was attacked for exposing "scams and corrupt practices of officials in government offices.
In a complaint lodged with police, he identified the alleged assailants as Mohammad Islamil Bhat, Mohammad Ashraf and Abdul Rashid Naikoo.
He said despite his repeated complaints lodged with the Kulgam district administration, no action was taken against a senior official of Kulgam, who according to him, was instigating the contractors and workers of political parties for hiding his corrupt practices.
"The senior officer, who has also served as BDO, Qiamoh, is involved in many scams. I have filed a complaint against him with the vigilance organisation which is being probed," he claimed.
Repeated attempts to contact Assistant Commissioner, Kulgam, failed as he switched off his cellphone after receiving a call from Early Times.
Meanwhile, a police officer, while assuring fair investigation, confirmed to Early Times that they had received a complaint from the RTI activist.
Pertinently, Early Times had about a week ago exposed the alleged scam in Rural Development Department. The Kulgam district administration, taking cognizance of the ET report, has constituted a committee to probe into the alleged scam. Headed by ADC, Kulgam, the committee has visited the village and collected necessary information from the BDO, Qimoh.
