Out of power, BJP Ministers a 'grounded' lot

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 11: Jammu: Less than a week's time out of power, the entire BJP flock(ministers) are a grounded lot, thanks to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti who is taking her time to rebuild the contours of coalition after demise of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Mohammad Syed. BJP ministers who insulated themselves with layers of arrogance for over 10 months are suddenly bonding up with the workers and functionaries in a manner that reflects reunion kind of a scenario.
Sources said at a party gathering a day back, all the BJP ministers converged only to show up their real, desperate state of mind, albeit with a conduct showing respect and recognition to workers whom they ignored for months. Fear and worry was writ large on their faces with extreme anxiety in conversation as to what shape political developments will unfold in days to come, said the sources. However, all of them were at their best in warming up to the workers of the party, which though unsurprising amused the latter.
Sources said that power had gone into the heads of all the ministers to the extent that they would never entertain any phone calls nor respond to repeated queries of the workers for weeks together. More than the ministers their personal staff and so called PROs had widened the gap between the workers and the ministers resulting in widespread resentment, said the sources adding that the workers and cadres were yearning for a setback to them and present 'hold -up' is the right , rather most apt situation of reprimand on their own, sources further said.
In the present political developments when the post of Deputy Chief Minister is once again under debate, people within the party are drawing comparison of Dr Nirmal Singh with predecessors like Pt Mangat Ram Sharma and Tara Chand of Congress who occupied the positions, may not have proved any good for Jammu's cause, yet a marked difference in the sense that they had made themselves available to common masses and the party workers within their office chambers in the Secretariat.
On the contrary, BJP's Nirmal Singh made out a difference in carving out a separate chamber within the existing chamber, all for the sake of keeping away from the visiting crowd that comprised most of the time the party workers, said the sources while referring to change in the office chambers Dr Singh made soon after assuming power. Steps like this and overlooking the commoners with arrogant behaviour by most of the BJP ministers have only enlarged the gap so much that it can not be bridged by superficial good will gestures seen for the last few days. While party leadership is willing to continue alliance with PDP, hurt and offended workers wish delay to get stretched so that it reminds the ministers nothing is permanent in politics and that more than power, rapport with ground level is more important, sources said describing the state of mind within the party.
