Desperate for power, Gadkari, Madhav say Mufti's dreams will be fulfilled | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 11: The "unscrupulous" BJP can go to any extent for the sake of power. It did a complete U-turn and abandoned its ideology under the leadership of "power hungry" Vajpayee and Advani for the sake of power at the centre and it did the same in J&K in February-March 2015 by forging an alliance with the pro-self-rule PDP. The BJP threw its ideology or core agenda (Article 30, Ram Temple and Uniform Civil Code) into the dustbin under the direction of Vajpayee-Advani duo with the so-called nationalist RSS also on the board and stitched up a ragtag alliance, called National Democratic Alliance (NDA). And it did the same in J&K under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, with RSS again on board. In fact, in J&K, the BJP went several steps further and endorsed the Kashmiri leaders' anti-national stand that J&K was a disputed territory whose political future was yet to be decided. So much so, it entered into pre-poll alliance with separatist Sajad Lone and gave mandate to Hina Bhat of Kashmir, who threatened that she will pick up gun in case the BJP raked up Article 370 in the election campaign. To oblige the Kashmiri Muslims, the BJP didn't even release its printed election manifesto. Everything was going on smoothly for the BJP in J&K till the other day or till Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed was alive. His death on January 7 at AIIMS, New Delhi, after prolonged illness upset the BJP's applecart with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti showing the BJP leadership its rightful place and asking it to obey the PDP's diktats if it wanted to join the state government. On Friday, it was PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who taunted the BJP leadership by telling it that there was no question of accepting its demand for rotational chief minister and more berths in the cabinet and some additional portfolios. And on Sunday, Mehbooba Mufti went several steps further and told the BJP leadership to behave if the BJP wanted to join the state government with the PDP. Mehbooba Mufti not only rejected the demand seeking rotational chief minister, but also reportedly told the BJP leadership that there will be no deputy chief minister in the new government, that the PDP needed some more important portfolios and that the BJP will keep its mouth shut and not speak on any sensitive issue. As expected, the BJP swallowed all the taunts and insults in their desperate bid to remain in the good books of the PDP. Union Surface and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and BJP national general secretary and in-charge J&K Ram Madhav reassured Mehbooba Mufti that the alliance of the BJP with the PDP will be in the interest of the PDP. They said the BJP will help the PDP fulfill all the dreams of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The dreams of Mufti Sayeed, everyone knows, were self-rule for the state and a regime that empowers Pakistan to exercise sovereign powers with India in J&K. Gadkari made this commitment in Srinagar on Sunday and Ram Madhav held out similar commitment in New Delhi the same day. Indeed, the BJP is desperate for power. It's no wonder that Mehbooba Mufti is making optimum use of the BJP's weakness for power and dictating terms to it. |
