Farooq forgets he failed to protect KPs, blames them for staying away from Valley | Holocaust Day | | Omar distances himself from dad's statement, sympathizes with community Early Times Report jammu, Jan 20: A few days after the National Conference working president Omar Abdullah snubbed his father and NC Patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah for sending feelers to Bharatiya Janata Party to form the Government in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq has raked up yet another controversy saying, "Nobody will approach KPs with a begging bowl to return to Kashmir." On the other hand Dr Farooq's son and the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sympathized with Kashmiri Pandits for being forced to leave the Valley in 1990. "My family left under somewhat similar circumstances so I know the fear of not seeing home again, though mine was short lived," Omar wrote on the micro blogging site twitter. It's not for the first time that differences between the father-son duo have come to fore. Omar on many occasions has admitted that his father issues statements in a haste and leaves him embarrassed. Kashmiri Pandits observe Jan 19 every year as "Holocaust Day" to mark the anniversary of their forcible exodus from Kashmir. While commenting on the exodus of KPs from the Valley, Dr Farooq had said: "Don't wait till the last guns stop firing. Come home!" Who are you waiting for? Don"t wait. You think Farooq Abdullah will come, hold your hand and take you there." "They (Pandits) have to realise one thing, nobody is going to come with a begging bowl and say "come and stay with us", they have to make a move," the former Union Minister added. Dr Farooq's assertion on the "Holocaust Day" evoked sharp reactions as Kashmiri Pandits termed his statement as "insulting" and blamed him (Dr Farooq) for trying to hide his failures as Chief Minister in 1989-90. "When Kashmiri Pandits were killed in broad day light Dr Farooq was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and he failed to protect our lives and properties in the Valley," said a Pandit representative. He said its unfortunate that 26-years after Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave the Valley Dr Farooq is trying to put the blame on them for not returning to Kashmir. "Someone needs to ask Dr Farooq when he was the Chief Minister of JK from 2002 to 2008 what did he do to ensure that KPs return to their native place. The Government led by NC just made castles in air and made no sincere attempt to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits," the representative said. He said, "We know Dr Farooq has a habit of issuing statements unnecessarily but he should bear in mind that Kashmir belongs to Kashmiri Pandits also and it's their homeland too." On the other hand National Conference working president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah blamed the Central Government for the poor plight of Kashmiri Pandits . "Centre has been paying only lip service to the community," Omar said. The junior Abdullah tried to "control the damage" done by his father but Dr Farooq taking the minority community head on and blaming them for not returning to the Valley has hurt the sentiments of Kashmiri Pandits and it has once again proved that Omar and Dr Farooq are not on the same vis-a-vis return of KPs to Kashmir. |
