ET Report
Srinagar, Jan 20: The delay in the Government formation by the People's Democratic Party has been further fuelled as party President Mehbooba Mufti is open to all options including bidding adieu to BJP if the Centre fails on giving concrete and sincere assurances over "agenda of alliance", a party member revealed.
Party insiders, who attended the core group recently at Fairview Gupkar with Mahbooba in chair said: "Mehbooba is not in a hurry to become the Chief Minister. She has made it clear that she does not want to be the Chief Minister for the sake of it. The result can be anything, options are open either we will continue the alliance with BJP or we will break the alliance."
However, an insider said there are people in the party which too do not want an alliance with the right wing Hindu party, BJP to continue. But they will follow the final decision by Mehbooba Mufti. "We will follow whatever she chooses for the welfare of party and for the State of Jammu and Kashmir," a senior party member said.
"There may be a Yes or a No to BJP. Unless and until the BJP gives concrete assurance on agenda of alliance and commit that they will not create controversies like they have done before. If they fail to do so then we don't see any other option to break the alliance with BJP," the senior PDP Party leader said.
A certain party insider has also hinted for a possible 're- election' if a need arises that is if the top brass of BJP does not commit to their sincerity towards the 'agenda of alliance'.
Another senior PDP leader, who wished not to be named told Early Times that forming an alliance with the BJP was not easy for us and took two months to decide the agenda of alliance, "until we will not get clear and written commitment now from BJP, we will not continue our alliance with BJP."
"Of course the process cannot be done overnight the Agenda of Alliance, which took two months to get finalized, when we formed the Government with BJP. It is natural that the review process will take few days, but BJP should give us concrete assurance," the PDP leader said.
"All options are still open. No decision has been taken yet on formation of Government in the State with any other party. Mehbooba is the authority. She will take the decision whether we should go with BJP or Not," PDP leader said.
"Since the Government formation the BJP have created controversies like Beef Ban, Article 370 and etc. which forced us this time to re-think the alliance with BJP. Chances of alliance with BJP are fifty-fifty." Party insiders told early Times
"In the 87-member J&K Assembly PDP has 27 seats now; it is PDP's commitment to work tirelessly for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the guidance of party president-ship, Mehbooba Mufti," he added.
