Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 20: The veteran PDP leader and Member Parliament from north Kashmir, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, is likely to get a vital post in party's key affairs with the main responsibility of rejuvenating it after the demise of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Party sources divulged that the most important post within the party would be given to Muzaffar Beigh, a former minister who has played crucial role while establishing the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir's political spectrum. There are reports that his absence was always being felt in the PDP even during the time when late Mufti was its patron. It was due to some PDP leaders who were given plum positions in Mufti Sayeed's cabinet that Beigh preferred to keep himself aloof. "Muzafar Beigh attended the coordination committee meet only once. Even at that time too, Beigh expressed dismay over the way the coalition was functioning. He had reportedly several times apprised the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti about the behaviour of some PDP ministers towards the party workers," sources said.
Reports informed that at the time when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was rushed to AIIMS on December 24, it was Beigh who remained by Mehbooba's side. Even after the demise of the chief minister on January 7, Beigh took control of the situation. "It was he who addressed the press and controlled the entire situation at the time when the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti was in shock. Beigh was never out of the PDP. He has created the party and his role would never have been undermined," said a party leader.
Sources meanwhile informed that the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti would be swearing in as 13th chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir soon. "She has decided to accord key role to Muzzafar Hussain Beigh within the party. It was learnt that Mehbooba too had expressed dismay over the style of working of some PDP ministers in the government but was reluctant to take any action against them. It was mainly due to her father that she didn't want to stir the established mechanism," said a party leader, adding that otherwise, she herself used to receive lots of complaints from the party workers against some PDP ministers.
Meanwhile, after the demise of the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has decided to act tough against the outlaws within the party.
Sources said that she already had informed Beigh to take control of the situation and strengthen the party. "It is the tough time not only for the government formation but also for the PDP as a regional party. There are past incidences that have angered our workers a lot. Mufti sahib used to say that he is on CM's chair because of his workers and supporters. To rebuild the trust again is the need of an hour," a PDP functionary said, adding that among the veterans in the party, Muzaffar Beigh tops the list.
