A month after his death, Raja Ram awaits his last rites | | | Early Times Report jammu, Jan 20: Raising a serious question mark on the procedural intricacies and cold indifference of the NGOs, a dead body is awaiting last rites for the last 30 days in the mortuary of the GMC hospital. According to reports, 50 year old Raja Ram son of Bindu Parshad of Teli Basti Bari Brahmana was admitted in Chest and Disease Hospital and he breathed his last there on Dec 22. The body was shifted to the mortuary of GMC&H Jammu for legal formalities. Later, the GMC authorities informed police about the death and his address but when police started inquiring about the deceased they came to know the deceased had no one around and was abandoned. Police have also given No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the GMC authorities regarding his last rites. If unattended patient died in case of Medico Legal Cases (MLC) police have to conduct last rites of the deceased after 72 hours and if unattended patient dies without MLC then hospital administration arranges the last rites of the deceased. Manoj Chalotra Medical Superintendent (MS) Chest and Disease Hospital when contacted said that as per Anatomy Act 1959 rule 5 and 7 the legal custodian of the dead body is the SHO of the area. MS GMC&H Jammu Ravinder Rattan Paul when contacted said that the body has been kept there by the administration of CD hospital and they have also taken up the matter with police. |
