High alert sounded against ISIS in India celebrating R'Day | | | As India is preparing for celebrating its Republic Day various states in the country, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, are faced with threat from the dreaded ISIS that is spreading its tentacles in the south Asian region. The ISIS activists know it well that since people, security agencies and the political leaders in India would be busy in celebrating the Republic Day, it is time for carrying out some major terror strike which could allow the ISIS added significance for being the top terror groups in the world. Apart from this threat the worry on the part of the Indian Government ,the security and intelligence agencies is the capability and capacity of ISIS activists and supporters for using the social media for making inroads into the circles of the youth, especially students. In this case students from Kashmir studying in various professional colleges in India and abroad are being lured to join the ISIS for which these students across the country are being provided with monetary and other facilities. It is in this connection that central Government agencies have issued direction to all the states to remain alert against any possible threat of terror strike by the ISIS activists. With increased activities of ISIS supporters online, the government has taken the threat of the dreaded terror group seriously and asked states to remain alert against the possibility of terror attack' in the country. Accordingly, the threat of ISIS was discussed in detail at a meeting of top officials of central intelligence and investigative agencies and police of 13 states recently, which was chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The intelligence agencies believed that the ISIS threat was real. According to these inputs, the days leading to the Republic Day is crucial and instructions have gone to all states to remain alert against possible ISIS attacks, particularly a lone wolf attack. A 'lone wolf' terrorist is one who indulges in violence in support of some group, movement or ideology but works alone, outside of any command structure and without material assistance from any group. Recent arrest of a couple of persons for allegedly spreading ISIS activities online and trying to recruit Indian youths in the Middle-East terrorist group, were allegedly on the verge of turning into a 'lone wolf'. Hence at the high level official meeting participants reviewed the steps taken to check the growing influence of ISIS among youngsters through social media and other sources. Though Washington has announced its war against ISIS which is backed by a number of countries, including Russia the threat seems quite heavy because of the number of activists who have joined the ISIS in recent months. One can understand the enormity of man power that the ISIS has from the killing of over 20,000 ISIS activists during the last two to three years in air raids by Russia and the US. What worries the Government of India is the possibility of Kashmiri students, studying in various professional colleges and universities in various parts of the world, getting lured by he ISIS. Once remaining part of the ISIS these very students could trigger major trouble in the Kashmir valley once they are able to return to the scenic valley. Hence these students from Kashmir stand under surveillance in states in India and in other countries. It is so because most of these Kashmiri students have come from a land which has remained highly disturbed because of militancy related acts of violence. Hence these students are prone to fall prey to the ISIS campaign for enlarging its network. And those senior Army functionaries, posted in Jammu and Kashmir, who does not show any concern over growing ISIS threat, need to review the situation in the valley and across its borders and initiate measures to prevent ingress of ISIS activists from across the LOC. |
