Gender Sensitisation, Awareness Programme organized

Jammu, Jan 20: Central University of Jammu organised a one day "Gender Sensitisation and Awareness Programme" under SPARSH (Sensitisation, Prevention and Redressal of Sexual Harassment). The programme was organised to create awareness amongst the employees and students about sexual harassment and gender discrimination.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu formally inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion the Vice Chancellor said that Gender discrimination occurs when genders are treated unequally. Gender discrimination is not based exclusively in light of sexual orientation contrasts but rather on how individuals are treated with contrastingly in light of their gender. He applauded the efforts of the female students at Central University of Jammu and apprised that in Central University of Jammu more than 50% of the seats are taken by female students on merit. He said this is one of the best practices of Central University of Jammu towards becoming Centre of Excellence.
Further Prof. Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator of Central University of Jammu said that employers who provide different working conditions and promotional opportunities for men and women violate anti-discrimination laws. Gender discrimination is unlawful and several laws are in place to forestall and dispense discriminatory practices and Central University of Jammu is providing a gender equitable climate for all.
Earlier, Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Chairperson SPARSH welcomed the gathering. She apprised that SPARSH at Central University of Jammu is committed towards providing a conducive work place environment for its employees, faculty, students and research scholars. During the day Debate and Poetry competition on Gender Issues and Challenges was conducted in which 38 students from different departments of Central University participated. A play titled "Sikke ke do pehloo" was also organised wherein the sensitisation and awareness on sexual harassment was enacted by the students of Central University of Jammu.
