Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Feb 29: The hardships faced by the people in peripheral Kishtwar district due to non availability of reasonable healthcare facilities and fatally dilapidated roads can be judged from the fact that the two MGNREGA labourers injured in a tragic incident in remote Kither area District on Sunday reached Kishtwar hospital after arduous journey of approximately 16 hours on foot and road. Two other labourers had also died in this tragic incident.
As per the details available with ET, the two poor labourers working on MGNREGA job site at Bakarwal Keri died after they got buried under the debris of a rock, while two other labourers identified as Hashim Din son of Fateh Mohammad and Mohammad Shafi son of Noor Mohammad who sustained injuries were admitted at District Hospital Kishtwar today.
The locals informed that it was not only lack of medical and health facilities in the area, the roads in the area are virtually death traps and instead of travelling in vehicles, the people prefer to walk by foot to avoid frequent fatal road accidents.
When contacted ACD Kishtwar Akther Qazi said that the concerned Block Development Officer and Junior Engineer has been asked to submit the details with regard to the incident and assured that department will provide all possible help to the victims' families as well as to the two persons injured in the incident. He said that the area lacks road and communication and said that it was only by tomorrow the things with regard to the incident could get cleared.
Meanwhile former J&K Minister and MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori while expressing grief and shock over the tragic incident in which two precious lives were lost has today seeks the intervention of Governor N N Vohra voicing concern over non-functional of health sub-centers in the area and said there are 676 health centers across the state and urged Governor to look into the concern of poor health condition in the state.
He urged upon Governor to pass the directions to Commissioner Secretary Health and Director Health for immediate opening and making the sanctioned sub-centers functional so that general public does not face any hardship in regard to health sector as was faced by these two injured persons today.
Senior BJP leader Farooq Keen who accompanied the injured labourers at District Hospital Kishtwar urged upon the government to provide 5 lac compensation to the families of the deceased and jobs to the family members. He said that both the deceased persons belonged to very poor families and required immediate help from the government as well as from RDD department. He said government should also provide financial assistance to the injured persons and also demanded free of cost treatment for both the injured.
