Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Feb 29: Demanding 'Air Ambulance' for the critical patients from far flung areas of erstwhile Doda district, the people today staged massive protest in Kishtwar District and also blocked the main road in front of DC Office Kishtwar in support of their demand for immediate airlifting of critical patient to Government Medical College Jammu.
As per the details available with "Early Times", a 28 year old Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh s/o Abdul Gani Sheikh of Mian Palmar suffering some cardiac disorder as well as 'pulmonary edema' (water in his lungs) was admitted at District Hospital (DH) Kishtwar late last night and doctors treating him suggested his immediate shifting/airlifting to Government Medical College Jammu to save his life.
"On the bases of the suggestions made by the doctors treating the ailing youth, the District Administration took up the matter of air lifting of patient with Divisional Administration not only airlift Tanveer Ahmed but two other critical patients including pregnant lady from Marwah," sources said.
They added due to some miss understanding between the Air Force authorities and Divisional administration, only two patients were airlifted while 3rd patient namely Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh could not be airlifted.
"As soon as the family members and their relatives noticed delay in airlifting of the patient, they along with local people including women took to roads and started protesting while demanding immediate airlifting of the critical patient- Tanveer.
Protestors continued their protest for nearly two hours while the chopper fail to land at Kishtwar due to less fly time as the day light was fading also.
Later on Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan alongwith district administration officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters who on his intervention agreed to lift their protest and to shift the patient by road. The patient was shifted to Jammu by road in an ambulance accompanied by trained assistant who will take care of the patient enroute to Jammu.
Sources added, "Meanwhile under precautionary measures all police and traffic nakas were informed about the shifting of the patient and were asked to assist on priority in shifting the patient in case medical attention required for him.
Meanwhile PDP State Youth Secretary Umar Malik today demanded sanctioning of Air Ambulance for Doda and Kishtwar Districts. He said that the area is hilly and more than 70% areas also lack road connectivity. He said that the said Air Ambulance should be kept at the Disposals of the Deputy Commissioners of both the Districts added that by sanctioning Air Ambulance, precious lives could be saved in future.
