Katra shocker: Rape accused escapes from Katra police station, three cops suspended | | | Ashwani Sharma

Udhampur, Feb 29: A local hardcore criminal booked for rape escaped the police custody in dramatic manner when he went to attend nature's call in police station Katra this morning. Police sources said that one Pawan Kumar who was apprehended on February 24 for his alleged involvement in rape and murder of a minor girl today escaped from the custody of police from P/S Katra. Surjit Kumar, SSP Reasi told media persons that one of the arrested four accused, identified namely as Pawan Kumar booked under a case registered against FIR No 16/16 u/s 302.364.376 of Police Station Katra, managed his escape from the custody of police from P/S Katra this morning when he went to nature's call. He added that three special teams were constituted and raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused. SSP Rajouri added that three cops including an ASI posted at Police Station Katra, were placed under suspension for the dereliction of duties. "The suspended cops include ASI identified as Sharif, Sentry Vikram Singh and SGCT Chunni Lal, police added. Meanwhile a fresh case against the accused u/s 223 /224 RPC has been registered at Police Station Katra. Pertinent to mention here that the escaped accused Pawan kumar and other three other hardcore criminals involved in the gang rape and murder of a minor (9) girl had been arrested by Katra police three days back. The accused have confessed that they kidnapped the minor girl on January 24-25 and killed her after gang rape. The minor from Pahar Gunj area of Katra town had gone missing on January 24/25 January 2016 and her body was found from a small rivulet in the town on February 8. |
