Jammu, Feb 29 : A four day workshop for teachers on open ended experiments in life science using Vermi-compost as base concluded here in State institute of Education, Jammu. The Workshop was organized by National Council for Urban and Rural Dev. Society (NCURDS), Jammu a volunteer organization headed by Zaffar Ullah Khan, Founder Secretary General NCURDS, catalyzed and supported by NCSTC, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Delhi. The main focus of the workshop to aware the teachers regarding types of wastes, making best use of Non-biodegradable wastes in the form of equipments for hydroponics technique of growing plants, drip irrigation, sand culture, stone culture and aquaculture, followed by degradable material for Vermi-culture, making of Vermi- Carium (pit method, tank method and bed method), preparation of Vermi-compost, Vermi-wash, their utility for making eco-friendly fertilizers. Mohammad Jawaid Alam, Master Resource person, from Patna, Bihar Niranjan Kumar, resource Person from Bihar beautifully explained the whole concepts and demonstrated all the activities as mentioned and get them prepared by the participants. The participants get themselves fully involved with full zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Professor Govt. Degree College, Kishtwar also joined as the resource person in the said workshop and attracted the participants by his activities related to life science such as osmosis, diffusion and other by different methods of activities. Kuldeep Gupta, Master, Govt. High School, Simbal Camp and programme Coordinator also performed some hands on activities in life science such as imbibitions, Turgor pressure, swallowing, and transportation of water through xylem, to make teaching life science in play way method to students. A colourful valedictory function was organized in which Mohammad Iqbal, Principal State Institutre of Education, Jammu was the Chief Guest while Brij lal, Field Advisor, State Institute of Education, Jammu and Suresh Kumar Gouria, Research officer were guest of honour. In the end, certificates were distributed among the participants by the chief guest and other dignitaries. |
