Ex MLC leads protest, demands compensation to rain affected | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 16: Led by Ravinder Sharma, former MLC and Chief Spokesman JKPCC a large number of local from Beripattan and Sunderbani today staged a protest and demanded early compensation to rain affected people who suffered economic loss in recent incessant rains. The protestors led by Congress leader Ravinder Sharma assembled outside the SDM Office Sunderbani and staged their protest. Amid slogans in support of their demand i.e. relief and compensation to the affected farmers, the protestors demanded early compensation to those who suffered due to rain and hailstorm on March 14. Speaking on the occasion senior Congress leader said that the farmers of Sunderbani, Beripattan and part of Nowshera tehsil have suffered a huge loss caused due to heavy rains and unprecedented hailstorm. He said that the crops, vegetables and the fruit orchards suffered heavy damage. He demanded that the Govt should immediately depute special teams comprising of departments of revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture etc in order to have proper assessment of various kinds of crops damaged so that the affected farmers get due and adequate relief. Sharma demanded immediate supply of free ration to the badly affected areas. In this connection he also talked to the higher authorities including DDC Rajouri. Meanwhile Panchayats representatives headed by Thakur Shamsher Singh Sarpanch and President Block Congress Committee Sunderbani submitted a memorandum in this regard. |
