Kishtwar, Mar 16: Will police act against ex-minister and MLA Sunil Sharma for his alleged act of providing refuge to an alleged accused in the murder of a man during the August 2013 communal riots here? In photographs, that were circulated to some people, Sunil was spotted with the murder accused at the official residence of union minister Jitendra Singh in New Delhi. MLA, Doda, Shakti Parihar, MLA, Bhaderwah, Daleep Singh Parihar, BJP leader from Inderwal, Tariq Keen and BJP leader from Banihal, Shokat Dang were also with him. Hari Krishan alias Kasooru is alleged to be involved in the killing of Lassa Khanday during the 2013 riots and Roshan Lal in the alleged killing of handicapped PHE employee Bashir Moochi who was burnt alive at Chowghan ground, Kishtwar. Both are absconders. Law says any person who provides shelter to an absconder is liable to be prosecuted under section 212 and 216. There, however, seems remote possibility of police putting Sunil to even cursory questioning. When he arrived here on Monday last, senior police officers were seen escorting him to his residence. Though MP Jatindra Singh has distanced himself from the controversy by claiming that he had no knowledge about the person as he was accompanying Sunil. "His statement has come as a surprise because Hari Krishan, who is the BJP's block president, Padder, was a star campaigner for him during the last parliamentary elections," sources alleged. It is now to be seen whether Kishtwar police succumbs to the MLA's pressure or take the initiative of questioning him. |
