Solar plant at Govt Polytechnic defunct | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 16: The quality of the training imparted by polytechnic College Bikram Chowk to its students and capability of the staff came under question as none of the so called trainers could repair Solar Power Plant which was installed in the college by government few years back. Reliable sources of Polytechnic informed Early Times that the then Minister of State for Technical Education Vikar Rasool had installed 100 KW Solar Power Plant in Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk for providing a dependable power supply system to College. "The solar plant was installed with an expenditure of Rs. 2.68 crore which augments the power requirement of the institution round the clock but for the last six months around eight batteries of the plant are defunct due to which the plant is lying defunct", sources said, adding that the college administration had taken up the matter for replacement of batteries with agencies concerned which installed the power plant in college. The agency demands from college administration to give permission in written for the replacement of batteries but due to the lackadaisical approach of college administration the permission yet not given. "The purpose for which the plant was installed in college was defeated; through cables Power Development Department not providing round the clock electricity supply to college", sources said, adding that when the plant was installed in college we did not use gen set for workshops. It also provides electricity supply to college hostel round the clock. When contacted, Principal of College, Er Ritu Jamwal said that the Solar Power Plant of the college is functional since it was installed here. |
