Srinagar, Mar 16: Due to shrinking of existing road formation due to recent rain, the authorities have imposed some restrictions on the national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. Today light vehicles with some restrictions will ply from both sides while heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar, a traffic official told.Meanwhile, the national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir, historic Mughal road and Bandipora-Gurez and Synthan-Kishtwar roads also remained closed since December last due to accumulation of snow. The Traffic official said that recent rainfall all along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has resulted in shrinking of existing road formation at some places, particularly Mandir point Patnitop, Nashri, Peerah, Mehar, Marog, Battery Chasma and Sher Bibi due to which two heavy vehicles cannot pass simultaneously at these locations. Before the stretches could be made worthy for two way traffic, one way regulated movement of heavy vehicles with certain restrictions has been enforced for hassle free movement of traffic. He said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway have already started repair work so that heavy vehicles are also allowed to ply from both sides. He said today passenger and private vehicles will be allowed to ply from both sides while heavily vehicles will ply from Jammu to Kashmir with some restrictions.
