DAK condemns thrashing of doctor by police | 'Threatens stir if erring cops not booked' | | Srinagar, June 9: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today strongly condemned thrashing and detaining of on duty doctor by police at Sub District hospital Damhal Hanjipora of south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Expressing outrage, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that this kind of brutality by police on a doctor who was discharging his professional duties is unacceptable. Men in uniform who were supposed to defend and protect citizens have become goons. They instead of upholding law are breaking and abusing it. The victim doctor Muhammad Maqbool was physically assaulted by police when he refused to fill an inquiry form which under rules was to be filled by another doctor. He was hit by gun buts and dragged from the hospital and was put in lock up. It were attendants of a sick patient who got the doctor released during the dead of the night. The police have committed a heinous crime by illegally detaining a doctor on duty leaving emergency patients to die. This episode clearly indicates that police believe that whatever they do, no action will be taken against them. Earlier also police have beaten doctors as per their will and no action was taken. Police have gone rowdy as they have been let loose and are unchecked and unaccounted. This has created a fear psychosis among doctors who feel insecure and unsafe because of highhandedness of police. This atrocious attitude of police towards doctors has forced many to migrate and this is the main reason of brain drain. If the erring cops are not booked and they are not given exemplary punishment DAK will be left with no option but to go for indefinite strike. |
