For Social welfare Deptt, JK has no 'Ladli Beti' | Scheme approved in Sept 15, no money given to beneficiaries till date | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, June 9: The dilatory approach at Jammu and Kashmir's bureaucratic level has left the much hyped 'Ladli Beti 'scheme unattended with funds sanctioned in crores continue to remain unutilised. Reports informed that there were more than 2250 cases approved in Jammu and Kashmir's four districts wherein after the surveys, the beneficiaries for the scheme were identified. In September last year, Jammu and Kashmir government approved a state-sponsored social assistance scheme for girl child 'Ladli Beti' which was implemented in six districts with low child sex ratio. The state Cabinet, under the Chairmanship of then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, gave its nod to the adoption of 'Ladli Beti' for its implementation in six selected districts - Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Budgam, Pulwama and Anantnag - exhibiting low and declining child sex ratio. According to the scheme, only those girl child, born to parents with annual income from all sources less than Rs 75,000 per annum, were made eligible for the benefits under the scheme. However, even when nine months have already passed since the scheme was approved, there is not even a single penny given to any beneficiary under the scheme. Sources said that the dilatory style of working of some of the babus is making such a vital scheme as flop show and that measures, if aren't taken on priority, Ladli Beti would again turn into a distant dream for the JK inhabitants. Reports informed that more than 13 lakh rupees were sanctioned for the South Kashmir's Anantnag district but not even a single rupee has been utilized for the beneficiaries. In Jammu, amount sanctioned under the scheme was 26.15 lakh rupess. Here also no amount has till date been utilized. In Kathua, amount sanctioned under the scheme was 86.49 lakh rupess but nothing so far has been spent. In Samba, 14.45 lakh rupees were sanctioned under the scheme but no single penny has been spent. Reports informed that Jammu has 291 cases approved under the scheme, Budgam has 199 while as Pulwama had 700 cases. In a similar way Anantnag had 374 cases sanctioned, Kuthua had 555 whileas Samba had 125 cases of Ladli Beti sanctioned. In all such cases, no money has been given to the beneficiaries. Sources said that though the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, at the very inception of this scheme was personally taking keen interest in the launching of the scheme but the erratic approach of several bureaucratic level officers is troubling the CM. Sources privy to this development revealed that during the recent meet held over the delay in implementation of the scheme 'Ladli Beti', the chief minister took serious note over what she termed snail's pace functioning of the concerned officials in making the scheme a success.
