'NC crossing red lines, provoking Jammu'

Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 9: Developments which have been unfolding in Kashmir for quite sometime now have further added to anger of the already rather angry people of Jammu province, with the radicals among them openly saying that they don't want to maintain any kind of link with Kashmir as it has become den of anti-India and anti-Jammu activities. What has added fuel to the fire is the senseless and mind boggling opposition in Kashmir to separate Hindu townships and sainik colonies and also to everything they the Kashmiri separatists consider Indian.
And what has irked and disturbed them all the more is the support the Kashmiri separatists and fundamentalists have been getting from rabble rousing outfits like the NC, the Congress, the CPI and independent law makers from Kashmir. Their behaviour in and outside the assembly and the nasty behaviour of the separatists of all varieties have made it extremely difficult to distinguish who is separatist and who is "mainstream" politician in Kashmir.
What happened in the assembly two days ago led the people of Jammu province and all the nationalists in the state to believe that the opposition parties couldn't be depended upon and that they were no more than the extensions of separatist outfits like JKLF. That day, the NC lawmakers and fanatics like Er Rashid had created a scene in the assembly in their desperate bid to tell the gullible Kashmiri Muslims that they were against the police action against murderer Yasin Malik and that they wanted the authorities to give full freedom to the separatists to not only carry on their anti-India activities unchecked but also beat up anyone, including policemen, who come in their way.
What happened that day in the assembly and what happened in the Valley during the past more than three months and the hostile attitude in Kashmir towards Shri Amarnath Yatra, Abhinav Gupt yatra, to mention only a few, have all offended the religious and nationalistic feelings of the people of Jammu province and the result is that an impression has gone down in this region that it would be suicidal if they ignored these atrocious developments.
A number of civil society groups in Jammu have already said that things in the state had worsened and worsened to the extent that if remedial measures were not taken forth with, the state could go out of India. Besides, they have held New Delhi and Indian political class responsible for the whole mess in the Kashmir Valley and demanded surgical operations. The fact of the matter is that the ongoing activities in Kashmir have had their adverse impact on the Jammu's political psyche. Anything can happen in Jammu any time.
