Ministers fail to respond to oppn queries | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jun 9: Most of the PDP and BJP ministers are failing to reply the queries of the opposition parties, thus putting the government in an embarrassing situation. On Thursday, when opposition leaders raised the question in the legislative council about the industries and commerce department, its minister was caught in a tight spot when he failed to reply. However, it was timely intervention of the chief minister who responded on behalf of the minister. It was not for the first time that ministers had failed to respond to the opposition members' queries but it had happened with most of the new comers in the ongoing Budget Session. Since the Budget Session has begun, it is the Chief Minister who has intervened four to five times daily after the ministers failing to reply legislator's queries.Sources said most of the ministers don't know how to deal with the situation when they are asked tough questions by the Opposition members. "But it is the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who has been intervening so that things don't go out of control," sources said. Similarly in the Legislative Council, it has been the Chief Minister who has replied many a times on behalf of the ministers after they failed to reply the queries of members. "Most of the ministers are first time in the government, so they should have been given proper training how to deal in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. They need to have proper knowledge and rules about the House," an official of Legislative Assembly said. "Even some Opposition members don't know about the proceedings of the House. This all happens because they don't have proper guidance and should have given proper training." The 12th Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir have nearly 65% new faces as only 31 of the 87 newly-elected MLAs have previously been member the House. As many as 56 winners have been elected to the Lower House of the state legislature for first time, while 26 MLAs managed to retain their membership. Five others have made a comeback to the House after staying out for six to 12 years.
