Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 9: Despite two Chief Ministers laying its foundation stone, much awaited multi storied parking at General Bus Stand Jammu which was supposed to reduce traffic congestion and provide much needed parking space in Jammu, is still in oblivion.
It is pertinent to mention here that the proposal of construction of the multi storied parking was put forth by NC-Congress coalition government in 2010-2011 and in September 2, 2014 the then chief minister, Omar Abdullah had laid the foundation stone of it.
"Ironically, after one year in month of October another foundation stone was laid for same project by Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed accompanied with Dy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh but either the lackadaisical approach of the government or department concerned, construction on the project has not started yet."
Source in department said that the department concerned (JDA) had promised to shopkeeper to provide shops them at Inter-State Bus Terminal, Narwal. "But owing to delay in construction of 74 shops in ISBT, Narwan, the construction of the ambitious project-multi levels parking is lingering on", source said.
Source further said that the proposed cost of the multi storied parking was estimated by the government Rs 201.68 crores, from which Rs 131 crores has been released by government in favour of JDA (Executive agency) and both the CMs had announced while laying foundation stone, the construction works would be completed in two years. "But unfortunately after lapse of two years from first announcement, and after lapse of nine months from second announcement, the construction of the building is still not initiated by the executing agency", source said.
The newly constructed multi storied parking building will have accommodated 1300 cars and also provide access corridor to 80 buses and one taxi stand. It will have also provided an air-conditioned ticket booking office, waiting hall for the commuters.
