Early Times Report
Jammu, June 9: The delay in sanctioning of much hyped Indoor Stadium at Kathua has generated a lot of controversy within BJP itself with party MLA accusing the government of delaying the process in this regard.
The issue also figured in State Assembly today with the BJP MLA staging a walkout over the failure of government to fulfill its promise and ignoring the directions of the Speaker given during last session.
The MLA who took serious exception to government's failure to keep up its its promise staged a walkout in protest today along with his party colleague.
The BJP MLA while protesting over the issue said that he was given assurance by the former Chief Minster Mufti Muhammad Sayeed in DDB meeting last year that the stadium would be constructed at Kathua and later in another the review meeting a senior BJP leader said no to Stadium would be constructed at Billawar.
While questioning shifting of Indoor Stadium to Billawar the MLA said that Kathua has much more population than Billawar and there is no justification in shifting the same to Billawar.
The other BJP MLAs also protested saying that there is total discrimination in sanctioning of Indoor Stadiums as out of 12 only three have been sanctioned for Jammu while seven to Kashmir and two to Ladakh. The MLAs went into well and protested.
According to sources the Indoor Stadium which was sanctioned for Kathua is being shifted by a senior BJP Minister to his constituency which generated a lot of resentment among the people in Kathua Assembly segment and the local MLA who strongly protested against the same in every for a including District Development Board meetings and other government as well as Party foras during last two years.
The BJP MLA while justifying his demand of constructing Indoor Stadium in Kathua said that being a centrally located place and district headquarter the Indoor stadium can't go to the ruler area or a tehsil headquarter just because it falls in the constituency of the Deputy Chief Minister.
The BJP MLA who has been fighting for the establishment of the Indoor Stadium in his constituency has made it clear that the highhandedness of the any senior minister would not be allowed and he would take the fight in public while justifying his demand.
The BJP MLA said that he would not allow anyone how influential he may be in the party or government to usurp the rights of the people of his Constituency and fight against the same tooth and nail.
The BJP MLA has many other grievances with the government and he accuses the Party ministers of their failure in getting the Shapur Kandi Barrage constructed due to which thousands kanals of land in Kathua district remain un irrigated and farmers are worried.
He has forcefully raised the issue in different foras so far and also pressed for taking up the issue with Punjab Government on war footing basis but the hurdles created by some people in Government has delayed the project till date with the result the farmers in twin districts of Kathua and Samba of Jammu region are put to a heavy loss.
The construction of Shahpur Kandi Barrage can bring cheers on the faces of thousands of farmers in twin districts whose fertile land has become barren otherwise. This will not only boost their economy but also make the State self sufficient in food grains too.
The farmers in the twin districts are facing acute scarcity of irrigation water and failure of government to construct the Shahpur Kandi Barrage after entering into an agreement has added to their woes further.
