Kishtwar, June 9: The 110-Km Batote-Kishtwar highway which got closed last night due to mudslides and shooting stones following landslide triggered by cloudbursts in Baggar area reopened for one-way traffic after 12 hours on Thursday. Around 350 stranded vehicles were cleared by the traffic authorities. The highway, connecting twin Districts of Doda and Kishtwar with rest of the state, got closed at 9 pm yesterday after flash floods in several nullahs in Ramgarh area of Baggar resulting in accumulation of huge amount of debris at a couple of places. Three vegetable sheds were also buried under mud at Ramgarh market. "350 passenger vehicles and load carriers got stuck on both sides of the highway in Baggar area, 38km from Doda after landslides hit at three places in 1 km stretch from Ramgarh to Crusher point at 9pm yesterday," said DTI NH1B Shabbir Ahmed. "BRO started restoration work since wee hours today. At 9.30 am, we were able to restore the road partially for one way traffic. 350 stranded passenger vehicles and some load carriers carrying essential commodities were also cleared. It will take at least another 12 hours to restore the road completely," he added. |
