No proposal to set up schools for blind: Govt 6/10/2016 12:23:47 AM Early Times Report New Delhi, June 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday said it has no proposal to set up a school for the blind and specially-abled children of the state. This was revealed in a written reply by the minister for social welfare to a query raised by the PDP MLA during the ongoing Budget session in Legislative Assembly. MLA had sought information about the government plans to set up a school for the blind and specially-abled children of the State. In its written reply, the minister for social welfare said there was not any proposal under consideration for setting up the school however one residential school for blind has been established at Roop Nagar in Jammu division with an intake capacity of 25 inmates while as a Composite Regional Centre (CRC) has been established at Srinagar by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India for special education of Persons with Disabilities. "Besides, there are three blind schools and 15 schools for specially-abled children functioning in the State run by various non-­government organizations," reads the reply. The reply also reads that instructions have been conveyed to School Education Department and Higher Education Department (HED) from time to time to make all the public buildings including Schools, Colleges and Universities disabled friendly so that the specially-abled are able to access the existing School and Colleges for education.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
