JAMMU, June 15: It was a day of high politics in recent tragic case of Shaleen's brutal murder for ransom, with three major political parties trying to take on rivals, of course with some 'space and spice' for condemnation, sympathy and indeed the final demand for probe.
In the backdrop of Shaleen's kidnapping and brutal killing by two local criminals for extortion, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today accused the ruling National Conference of "patronizing" the criminals and "institutionalizing" crime in Jammu.
"If one goes through the reports appeared in a section of media, it seems that the criminals are enjoying the patronization of NC leaders. The crime is being institutionalized in Jammu with the patronization of politicians and land mafia. Jammu seems to have become haven for land and drug mafia," furious Mehbooba told reporters here.

NEW DELHI, June 15: The J&K police chief Kuldeep Khuda today said peace was not far from the state as there had been a steep drop in militant violence in the past three years.
Khuda, who was here in connection with an official function, said only 200 foreign terrorists and 300 locals were active in the militancy-infested parts of the state.
"There are about 500 militants presently active in Jammu and Kashmir and their number has come down from 700-800 last year and around 1,000 in 2008," he added.
