J&K Police organizes T-20 cricket tournament | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 10: T-20 cricket tournament organized by J&K Police under Civic Action Programme at Govt. Degree College Ground Poonch for channelizing the energy of youth and providing platform to the talented youth of the District culminated today on 10th March. About 16 cricket teams involving more than 175 players drawn from different parts of the district participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Glamorous Cricket Club Poonch and Habib Club Surankote. Glamorous won the toss and chose to bat first and scored 133 for 7 in 20 over's, while chasing the target Habib Club Surankote scored 107 for all out in 19 over's. Glamorous won the match by 26 runs. A grand valedictory function was held today where track suit, trophies were distributed among the winner and runner up teams, officials, umpires and media fraternity. Padamshree Shambo Nath Khajuria and Mohd Qasim Incharge District Youth services and sports were the guest of honour whereas DDC Poonch M.H Malik was chief guest on the occasion. Large number of prominent citizens drawn from all walks of life, sports lovers and players were present during the valedictory function. Zaffer Ahmed of Habib Club was declared best batsman and Gurvinder of Glamorous was best bowler of the series for their outstanding performance in the tournament. The tournament was conducted by the officials of district youth and sports department Poonch who officiated as umpires, referees and expert of the game including, Pervaiz Khan, J.P Singh, Romesh Kumar. Tariq Khan convener Shaheed Manjeet Singh Volleyball club coordinated the whole tournament. Nazir Charak veteran cricketer was also facilitated on the occasion. SSP Poonch S. Jatinder Singh Johar while speaking on the occasion said that youth are the backbone of the nation and they are real ambassadors of peace, communal harmony and national integration. He exhorted upon the gathering especially youth to contribute for maintaining the integrity, sovereignty and communal harmony of the great democracy of the world. He said that J&K Police is committed for providing platform to the players of different games and other activities for channelizing energy of the youth in a positive manner. SSP Poonch also sought the cooperation of the citizens of district especially youth for eradication of social evils and other crimes from the society. The players and other participants of the closing ceremony eulogized the role of J&K Police for organizing different sports events on regular basis which accordingly to them is giving a fillip to the talented youth of the district who are future of the country. Chief guest DDC Poonch M.H Malik while speaking on the occasion also appreciated the role of District Police Poonch for organizing such youth oriented programmes so as to provide platform for displaying their talents. He also exhorted upon the youth to work hard and contribute positively in the overall development of the district. He also said that there is a talent in the youth of the district and endeavour of district administration is to channelize their energy by providing platform to the talented youth. He also declared that a youth mela/cricket tournament will be organized in near future. Among others who were present on the occasion include Principal Degree College Poonch S. Tejinder Singh, Principal Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Poonch Riaz Mir, Khalid Amin-DySP DAR, Deepak Digra DySP Hqrs, Ajay Sharma-DySP Surankote, Surinder Kumar-SDPO Mendhar, Sheezan Bhatt DySP (ops) and other prominent personalities among a huge gathering present on the occasion. Persons from the media and sports officials associated with the tournament were also facilitated on the occasion. At the end Chief guest declared the T-20 cricket tournament as closed. The prominent citizens and players eulogized the role of District Police Poonch for organizing such a mega event and providing platform to the young talent of the district for displaying their talent. Pardeep Khanna anchored the valedictory function. |
