Omar concedes 'defeat,' advises centre to trust Mufti | Former CM needs to take a break, say critics | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 10: The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah seems to be caught between devil and the deep sea and is apparently finding it hard to cope up with life after relinquishing power. Omar issuing contradictory statements and hoping against the hope to see himself in power again is making his critics believe that he (Omar) should take a break till he understands that he is no more the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and his tenure has ended as his party could only manage to win 15 seats in the recent assembly polls. Soon after the incumbent Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was sworn in as the new head of Jammu and Kashmir, he stirred the hornet's nest by giving credit to Pakistan and separatists for "allowing peaceful conduct of polls" in the strife torn state. Omar didn't miss a chance to react to Mufti's statement and announced on the micro blogging site twitter that Mufti and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti have realized that entering into an alliance with the BJP was a "mistake" and now they want to break it off. Mufti government releasing the 2010 unrest mastermind Masrat Alam evoked sharp reaction from Omar in the beginning and he castigated the Chief Minister for releasing the "notorious separatist" whom he (Omar) had kept behind the bars for five years. He once again saw the PDP-BJP alliance crumbling but his dream once again didn't come true. After taking a hard stand over Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's decision to release Masrat Alam, Omar took a U-turn on Monday and advised the Centre to trust his bête-noire the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed or run the JK government directly from New Delhi. "God knows I hold no brief for Mufti Sayeed but a CM has to be trusted to decide what is and isn't in the interest of his/her state. And if you can't trust a CM to decide what is right then it's better to dispense with state governments & govern from Delhi directly," Omar posted on Twitter. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Omar Abdullah needs to realize that there are no takers for his expert comments and he is just wasting his time and energy by poking his nose into the functioning of the new government. It seems someone needs to tell him that his party National Conference would have to enter into an alliance with the Congress to even stake the claim for the post of the leader of the opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly as both the parties have only managed to get 15 and 12 seats respectively." The analyst said the former Chief Minister, who is also the working president of the National Conference needs to regroup his party activists and leaders to ascertain the reasons for his party witnessing a worst defeat in the electoral history of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947. "The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are seasoned politicians and they don't need any unwanted advises. PDP and BJP have entered into an alliance in JK after discussing all the contentious issues well in advance and there is remote possibility of both the coalition partners saying goodbye to each other in a hurry. Omar either should take a break, or understand that for next six years he has to remain out of power," the analyst added. |
