JAMMU, Mar 10: R K Sharma of National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) clinched the title in the two-day chess tournament, organised by Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) at IIIM Complex, here today.
In the final and fourth round of the competition, Sharma defeated Vishal Gupta of Central Excise to top the tally with four points. Securing three points out of four rounds, Vishal remained second while third place went to Vijay Singh of Intelligence Bureau (IB), who beat Sanjeev Kumar of Survey of India (SOI) in the deciding round today.
The team event could not take place in view of lack of participation on the second day of the tournament.
Meanwhile, as per the chairman of sports committee of the CGEWCC, BS Bhan, the Carrom competition shall start tomorrow at the same venue at 10 am. |
