Patients suffer as DH Udhampur faces shortage of staff | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Mar 10 : With a depleted strength of staff in District Hospital (DH) Udhampur, the patients visiting the health institution are suffering a lot as the shortage of manpower has severely affected the smooth functioning of the hospital. Expressing their serious concern over the shortage of staff in District Hospital Udhampur, the people of Udhampur District have urged the authorities to immediately fill up the vacant posts of doctors and Para medical staff failing which they will come to streets. The locals of the Udhampur said due to lack of doctors and paramedical staff, the patients admitted in the hospital or those coming for treatment from far off places of the district are facing many hardships and sometimes even patients die due to lack of proper care as the Hospital is running short of staff resulting into public resentment and protests. An attendant of a patient on condition of anonymity said Udhampur District Hospital referred about 1555 patients to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu from April 2014 to February 2015, which is approximate five patients per day referred to Jammu He further said that the condition of ambulances in this hospital is very poor as the two ambulances are of 2000 model while two others are of 2010 model. While turning the attention of the authorities towards the issue, the people said that in District Hospital Udhampur one post of Anesthesia specialist, one dermatologist, one pathologist, two Consultants Surgery, nine Medical Officer, one Gynecology, one Pathology, one Dermatology, one Ortho, two Anthesia, one blood bank officer, one Jr. Radiologist, one Jr. Aneasthist, one Medical Officer (ISM) posts are vacant and the Government has failed to fill up these posts till date despite the public protests. Ashok Kumar Gupta, a senior citizen of Udhampur said all these posts are sanctioned for the Hospital but the authorities have failed to fill up them till date with the result the Hospital is running with shortage of staff. He warned agitation in case further delaying tactics are made in filling up the vacant posts and added that hospital staff has to face the wrath of people whenever any death takes place due to lack of proper medicare. When contacted Medical Superintendent Dr. Chander Prakash agreed that hospital lacks staff and said that he had informed higher authorities to sanction staff for the Hospital. |
