KVK Reasi holds farmers' training | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, Mar 10 : Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organised a farmers' training on Rabi seasons Pulse diseases and their Management KVK, Reasi. According to press release, more than 15 farmers participated in the programme. At the outset Dr.Shahid Ahamad, Programme Coordinator, KVK , Reasi welcome the farmers and aware them about the major pulse diseases occurring in the district. They sensitized masses about disease management practices of crops viz., Lentil, Chickpea, etc. He explained that from the last three years yellow rust of wheat disease which is caused by Puccinnia strerriformis fungus has been causing huge loss to the crop resulting in low wheat production and very few farmers adopt the remedial measures to control this disease. Dr. Ahamad gave some recommendations to manage yellow rust in wheat crop. He recommended 2-3 sprays of Tilt (Propiconazole (1ml/litre of water) to protect the wheat crop from this chronic disease of wheat which causes a severe loss to the crop in the district.
He further said that this very fungus is mostly found in the poplar fields. He also aware the farmers that excessive use of urea also sometimes becomes the causal factors of this disease and suggested the farmers that they should use recommended doses of urea. He further added that this fungus appears in circles in the field and the farmers should apply the recommended doses of chemicals in the field. He further suggested that farmers should regularly visit their wheat fields so that disease infestation can be managed in the beginning. He suggested some disease resistant varieties of wheat. |
