Katra, Mar 10: They say 'Almighty works in mysterious ways' and people in holy town of Katra the base camp to abode of revered Goddess Shri Mata Vaishno Devi nestled in Trikuta Hills of Reasi District are now reasoning the 'good behind' the post affect of the September 2014 Floods and heavy rains across the state and now the scare of swine flu which has adversely affected the pilgrimage to this world famous holy cave shrine drastically.
Graph of total yatries visiting to holy shrine is astonishingly descending this year as compared to last 10 years. Locals attributed the declining trend in pilgrimage due to the mass destruction of infrastructure in heavy rains which struck the state in few months before. They added not only the flash floods across state in last year but the heavy cease fire volition and unprovoked firing by Pakistan last year become the cause of decrease in yatra but it seems the Swine Flu scare now a days is also taking toll of yatra this year till now.
According the data available within Early Times, Several Vaishnodevi pilgrims cancelled their advance bookings made for their hotel stay at Katra , Shiv-Khori and Patnitop , besides many have cancelled their chopper tickets which they booked in advance to visit the shrine. Meantime authorities also claimed that the number of Yatries came to Katra this year was not upto the expectations as according to the last three years data available with the Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board Katra, the number of yatries in 2012 is far more than the recorded number in 2013 which is exceeding than 2014. Authorities further added that the number of yatries also witnessed decrease from the day of the very beginning of cease fire violation while it earlier had affected last year in October-November. Authorities maintained yatra have crossed around 1.7 lakhs till now from March onwards which was about 2.89 lakhs last year. A number of Hotliers when contacted by early Times said that the scare of Swine flu may also be a reason of decrease in Yatra.
They further added the J&K Tourism is passing through a bad phase since last year as whole of Jammu and Kashmir got adversely affected by the Act of God as well as the violation by Pakistan.
