People lock PHE office, stage protest 5/7/2015 11:55:35 PM Early Times Report KATHUA, May 7: Scarcity of drinking water supply in different areas of PHE division Kathua add sufferings of people hailing all the three sub-regions of Kathua like Andhar, Kandi and city in scorching heat. PHE department is also facing several problems due to fluctuation and low Power supply. The residents of Water No. 10 Parlia wand Kathua today staged huge protest demonstration at PHE Divisional Office Kathua and locked the offices of Executive Engineer and AEE. The protest was led by Pankaj Sharma, President District Youth Congress Kathua. A number of protesters shouted slogans against the mal-functioning of PHE Deptt that could not provide drinking water supply for last 6 days. While addressing to protesters, Pankaj said scarcity of drinking water supply augmented sufferings of nearly 3500 people residing in ward no 10. He said people could not get water even for drinking and bathing. Motor pump got out of order few days back but nothing has been done till day even after several appeals to the concerned officers. Pankaj said people are suffering in scorching heat but department tries to formulate several excuses to satisfy the protesters but that could not be accepted by those who highlighted the scarcity of water supply but got nothing till date. Gopal Sharma, AEE Civil division, said that the people's protest is genuine as another water tank got out of order as the restoration process is going on. He said the water supply of existing water tank has been diverted to fulfill the demand of water that would affect on sufficient water supply. He assured to mitigate their suffering within hours. BM Sharma, AEE, PHE Mech. Division said motors frequently get out of order due to fluctuation in electricity, low voltage and over burden.
