Putting Geelani under house arrest serves 'no purpose' | Holds meeting of separatist groups at his residence, directs them to intensify anti-national activities | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Despite Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed putting Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest, Hurriyat hawk on Thursday held a meeting of various groups at his residence in Srinagar to provide a joint platform to various separatist organizations to intensify anti-national activities in Kashmir. Eight separatists leaders, some of whom were earlier part of the other Huriyat faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also joined Geelani's grouping during the meeting. Those who joined Geelani group include Tehreek-e-Mazahamat of Bilal Sidiqui, J&K People's Movement of Shahid Salim from Jammu region, Muslim Khaawteen Markaz of Yasmeen Raja, Islamic Political Party of Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Gujjar Pahari Forum of Chaudhary Shaheen Iqbal, Kashmir Freedom Front of Syed Bashir Andrabi, Muslim League (R) of Hakim Abdul Rashid and Parwan-e-Wilayat of Sibti Mohammad Shabir Qumi. The move is seen as part of a strategy to bring various separatist groups on a single platform after the huge voter turnout in last year's Assembly elections. It is pertinent to mention that after nationwide outrage over hoisting of Pakistani flags during Geelani's Tral rally last Friday and also during his Srinagar rally on April 15 this year, PDP-BJP government few days ago announced that Geelani has been put under house arrest and will not be allowed to carry out any anti India activity. Also, the police erected barricades outside his home. But today's meeting by Geelani at his residence belies the claim of PDP-BJP government. |
