Early Times Report
Jammu, May 7: A senior BJP Minister has posted his kin as Block Development Officer in Rural Development Department without any official order thus contradicting the claims of the PDP-BJP coalition that its committed to serve people and provide good governance.
Sources alleged that Minister's kin has unleashed brazen loot, seeking cuts and freebies from the government officials, and keeps on bragging about his close proximity with the Minister, who allegedly has managed his posting.
An officer in the Rural Development Department told Early Times the BJP Minister has managed to get his kin posted in his own constituency, without any government order, making it obviously clear that the 'posting' of the officer has been done at the behest of the minister himself.
Sources disclosed that officers of the department have turned a nelson's eye towards the activities of minister's kin. "He withhold payments of contractors despite they completing the works and then demands unreasonable cuts for issuing cheques" complained an official pleading anonymity.
"He uses Minister's name and demands freebies. He asked for six bottles of expensive liquor from an official and when the latter refused, he threatened and abused him" divulged another official. "He asked a JE to prepare the estimate of a project, for which no funds were allocated from any source, when the JE rightfully refused to prepare the estimate, he was threatened too. He even assaulted the JE demanding when he refused to give him Rs 20,000. This arrogant officer snatched JE's wallet and took away Rs 7000/ that he had in it" revealed an employee.
"The BJP Minister cannot be oblivious to the misdoings of his kin, who is using his name to intimidate officers; and the fact that he has been posted in the constituency of the Minister without any government order is itself an indication that he enjoys the patronage of the Minister who issues statements vowing to undo the misdoings of the previous government" said an official of the department.
GN Balwan, Director Rural Development when contacted confessed that the Minister's kin was posted as BDO as an internal arrangement and there was no government order. He however down played the buzz about his corrupt practices saying, "Report of an altercation between him and some officials had come to my notice, but I am not aware of any illegal demands being put by him on the officers" he said.
