Inclusion of 8 groups in Hurriyat (G) impresses none | `It may widen the wedge between two Hurriyats' | | Early Times Report srinagar, May 7: With the inclusion of the seven parties in Hurriyat (G), the wedge between the two Hurriyats is likely to widen. The Mirwaiz Hurriyat has taken the inclusion of the groups with a pinch of salt. Hurriyat (M) spokesman, Shahid-ul-Islam said some constituents quitting the conglomerate and joining Huriyat (G) was a routine exercise. He said the rebels never raised issues related to constitution but always about the berths in the executive council. Stressing that they had no issues with "some persons" joining the Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, he said most of them were one man parties and were striving for the membership in the executive council. Hurriyat (M) said in forum politics, people come and go. "We at the same time want to mention that even with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq there are some pending applications of the resistance leaders who have expressed their desire to join us," he said. Six constituents of the Hurriyat (M) quit last month after accusing the leadership of violating the 1993 constitution of the conglomerate which stresses need for implementation of UN Resolutions or a solution through tripartite talks. Last year, Shabir Ahmad Shah deserted the Hurriyat (M) and formed his own faction of the Hurriyat Conference. He has Nayeem Khan of National Front, Mushtaq-ul-Islam who heads his own faction of Muslim League (ML). The Hurriyat (G), however, has not taken Zaffar Bhat of the Salvation Movement and Saleem Geelani. Sources close to Hurriyat (G) said that the Masarat Alam severely opposed their inclusion. The development has not been perceived as a victory for Hurriyat (G). According to political experts, it is a problem. The Hurriyat (G) has encouraged the rebels of Hurriyat (M) and by doing so it has not set a healthy precedent, they believe. Late in the evening, a Hurriyat (G) spokesman while confirming the inclusion of eight groups in the amalgam said the old and the new constituents of amalgam signed an agreement "Meesaq-i-Hurriyat" which out rightly rejects any solution to Kashmir dispute other than complete freedom like soft borders, Status Quo, four point formula and internal autonomy. |
