Notorious trans-border smuggler Sarfu's wife, three others held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Four persons the family members of notorious trans -border narcotics smuggler Sarfu Ram reportedly were arrested and eight packets of narcotics substances were recovered during hectic the searches conducting in their residence on Khour of Akhnoor here today. Sources said that the arrested have been identified namely as Preeto Devi w/o late Sarfo Ram, Kuldeep Kumar, Seema Devi, and Anjali Kumari. Sources said, "Following specific information about the smuggling of narcotics, a team of Khour Police today conducted a raid at the residence of notorious trans border narcotics smuggler Sarfu Ram and during intensive search operations police team recovered eight packets of narcotics substance (believed to be Brown Sugar). Sources said that a team of Custom officials from Punjab also was in Akhnoor to probe the trans-border narcotics smuggling and joined in the searches launched by the local police here on Thursday. "Soon after the recovery of narcotics the police detained the family members of Sarfo Ram including his wife, Sister in law, daughter and the nephew for further questioning, they said. Pertinent to mention here Sarfu Ram, a resident of Camp Khour, after his arrest along with another trans-border smuggler, Shinda, had allegedly committed suicide on August 18, 2011. "Sarfu Ram (48) was found hanging in a compound inside lock-up of the JIC and he had used his pent to tie it with iron rods to hang himself. Pertinent to mention that Sarfu Ram had become a highly controversial trans-border smuggler after his links in narco terrorism-cum-hawala channel surfaced and it was found that he had links with drug mafia in New Delhi. |
