SRINAGAR, Feb 15: In a letter to M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Development, Governor N N Vohra has thanked him for agreeing to consider his request for inclusion of both Jammu and Srinagar cities in the list of Smart Cities.
The Governor had a detailed discussion with Naidu during his recent visit to New Delhi regarding the selection of cities under this Mission, an official spokesperson said on Monday evening.
Urging Naidu to consider both Jammu and Srinagar cities for being brought under SCM, the Governor had emphasized that J&K is the only State which has two capital cities where more than half the urban population of the State resides and, besides, 11-12 million tourists and pilgrims visit these cities every year. It was also pointed out that consequent to the intra-city competition among the potential cities to be proposed for inclusion in SCM, there was a tie between cities of Srinagar and Jammu. |
