Jammu, Feb 15: A group of distruntled elements indulged in vandalism to dismantle the ancient temple constructed during 1827-1846 A.D. in old fort of village Mangal Devi Nowshera known as Mata Mangla Devi.
Nathi Ram R/O Village Sayal Nowshera informed Early Times that the welfare and look after of the moveable/immoveable property under the temple is being done by Mahatama Paul Nath, Chela Mahatama Bhero Nath R/O Mangal Devi, Nowshera after the death of his Guru, earlier Manager (Mohatmim) since 1989 and performed all the religious functions which is supported by majority of public belonging to various villages. Early Times is in possession of a document of dated 27-03-2015 which revealed that a representation dated 25-3-2015 from the public of villages Mangal Devi, Seri, Deeing, Mangiote, Dharat, Gagrote of Tehsil Nowshera was received in the office of D.C.Rajouri for appointment of Mahatama Paul Nath , Chela of Mahatama Bhero Nath as Manager(Mohatmim) directing the S.D.M. Nowshera vide order No: SQ/1565-68 Dated 26-3-2015 to supervise affairs of the temple till such time the Manager of the temple is appointed. The concerned S.D.M. was also directed vide order No: SQ/1606-07 Dated 27-03-2015 to conduct a detailed enquiry/verification after going through the contents of representations and furnish report with specific recommendation to D.C.Rajouri ostensibly to settle the tangle and avoid dispute, if any.
Nathi Ram and Balbir Singh said that despite their repeated visits in the office of S.D.M., the conduct of enquiry continues to hang in the balance with no disposal till date for the unknown reasons. They further informed that few crazy and disgruntled persons resorted to dismantling the upper portion of anicient temple and started raising heavy construction causing major cracks in the rock on which the temple is located and this happened to the temple during its assignment of supervision allotted to concerned S.D.M. by D.C.Rajouri, they alleged, adding that there is every apprehension of the temple getting caved in. They said that the use of administrative prudence and adherence to standard operative procedures earmarked for conducting the detailed assigned enquiry could have definitely restricted Ashok Kumar Sharma S/O Parma Nand R/O Sunderbani, a govt employee and his accomplice from indulging into dismantling the roof of temple leading to illegal construction. Despite lapse of nearly one year of the duties assigned to the concerned officer by his superiors to conduct detailed equiry, the former failed to take prompt action being the issue of pubic importance and of a very sensitive nature attached with the religious sentiments of a particular community, they bemoaned.
The sources further said that villagers are ready to cooperate with the enquiry officer, but in vain. However, it was due to sagacity of mind and intervention of Mahatama Paul Nath that no untoward incident was allowed to happen, although the sanctity of the old temple was desecrated by vandalism with impunity further informed adding that after finding the authorities wanting in strong action against culprits, the public of village Mangal Devi through Mahatama Paul Nath obtained Court orders from Addl. Session Judge, Rajouri on 20-10-2015 which virtually restricted the defendants from causing any sort of interference in the suit land and causing undue interference in the management of the plaintiff in performing the functions of Hindu ritual and rites on the Mangal Devi temple, Court order reads.
