Despite selection committee's objection, influential lot enjoying plum post in JU | | | K Koushal Early Times Report jammu, Feb 15: The caseof exploiting political clout to occupy plump posts in Jammu University was not limited to Jai Kumar Sharma who occupied post of Additional Controller of Examination. Sanjeev Mahajan falls in the same league even as then selection committee had raised objection over his appointment. Minutes of the meeting of the selection Committee constituted as per provisions of the Act, for the selection of Joint Registrar held in the office Chamber of the then Vice Chancellor University on 15-01-2006 at 2 pm. In response to the advertisement, thirteen applications were received for the post of Joint Registrar and eight candidates including Sanjeev Mahajan (serial no. 6) presented before the selection committee and were interviewed by the committee. The minutes of the meeting in its first paragraph reads that "Based on the performance in the interview, job suitability Sanjeev Mahajan is found most suitable and appropriate as per job requirements of the Joint Registrar". As per the advertisement, in addition to the academic qualification the relevant qualifications for these posts are: At least 12 years of experience as lecturer (Sr Scale/) Reader with five years in Reader's grade alongwith experience in educational Administration OR Comparable experience in research establishment and/ 0r other institutions of higher education. Or 12 years of administrative experience of which 5 years as Deputy Registrar or an equivalent post. However, Sanjeev Mahajan who remained District Manager for 3 years, Manager Projects for 4 years Divisional Manager for 1 year, Secretary for 3 years, Dy Registrar for 2 years. It is also clearly mentioned in the minutes of the minutes that if his service of three years as Secretary (Grade Rs 10000-15250), J&K SC, ST and BC Development Corporation is included and considered alongwith university service of more than two years as Deputy Registrar, then Sanjeev Mahajan fulfills the edibility for the post of Joint Registrar. An expert claimed that this clearly indicates that Sanjeev Kumar does not meet the job experience required for the post as advertised and the rules were twisted at that time with technical language. And the committee, acting smartly, throws the ball in the then VC's court with the opinion that if approved by the competent authority the selection members were of the unanimous opinion that the Sanjeev Mahajan in order of rank be recommended to be appointed as Joint Registrar in the pay scale of Rs 16400-20000 initially on probation for a period of one year. |
