BJP ready to accept PDP's demand of CBMs | 'Structured dialogue to start on Wednesday' | | Govt formation
Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 15: After the 'chehlum'(40-day mourning) for former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed concluded on Monday, the BJP has "resolved to convince" PDP president Mehbooba Mufti over government formation in the state. Highly placed sources in the two parties said the "structured dialogue" would start by Wednesday when a high level team of BJP leadersarrives here. The PDP has been apprised about the proposed meeting. The sources said this all was decided at a high level meeting held Monday in the national capital on the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The BJP leadership resolved that it was golden opportunity to continue alliance with the PDP as the wrongdoings of the last year of mis-governance in Jammu need to be corrected if the party wants to survive in the winter capital," the insiders said. They said the closed-door meeting, which lasted for two hours, was attended by the party top brass including Amit Shah, Ram Madhav and Dr Jitendra Singh. The meeting resolved that demands as have been put forth by the PDP over the implementation of new CBMs were "genuinely negotiable." "It was resolved that PDP has genuine concerns, which can be addressed thorough structured dialogue and a way out can be found," the sources said. They said BJP's point man on Kashmir, Ram Madhav, has been empowered to negotiate over demands including return of power projects to the state government and speedy completion of AIIMS in the twin capitals. The sources said Madhav, flanked by leaders from the state chapter of the BJP including Dr Nirmal Singh and Sat Pal, will hold dialogue with the PDP leadership in the summer capital Srinagar. A top BJP leader told Early Times they had been waiting for the completion of 40-day mourning for Mufti. A PDP leader on the other hand while confirming the development said they have been intimated about the proposed meeting likely to be held on Wednesday. "Our side will be represented by Mehbooba, Muzaffar Beigh and Naeem Akhtar for the structured dialogue," said a PDP leader. He said the parameters for the structured dialogue have been finalized. "Even though the issue may not be resolved in the first meeting, a step forward will definitely be made," he said. BJP president Amit Shah on Monday empowered Madhav to resolve issues of over government formation arrangements with PDP. There has been a political deadlock in the state since Mufti's demise on January 7, while subsequently Mehbooba Mufti announced that she needed the announcement of "confidence building measures" from the central government to head a stable coalition with the BJP. The sources said Mehbooba Mufti had declined to discuss any government formation arrangements with the BJP before the 40-day mourning period for her father, ended. The state was put under governor's rule on January 9. Governor NN Vohra has since been running the state administration with the assistance of four advisors including two retired senior IAS officers. The National Conference on the other hand has been demanding that the Assembly be dissolved and new elections be held. |
