jammu, Feb 15: Police officers and lower ranks who were found helping drug dealers in the city and its peripheral areas would be identified and booked under the relevant sections of law.
A special police squad has been constituted by the zonal PHQ for the purpose. The squad members would clandestinely probe into the role of certain police officers and lower ranks in promoting the unlawful drug business and helping drug dealers, police sources said.
The alleged involvement of some lower rank police officers had already figured in the illegal drug trade, the sources added, saying the unlawful business could not flourish without active police support.
In a protest held on Sunday at Miran Sahib against the drug menace, a youth, while addressing people from a mobile tower, alleged that police were hand-in-glove with the drug dealers.
Sources alleged that after their arrest, the drug dealers were being freed by some police officers without registering any case against them. All such black sheep in police department would be identified and punished, sources said. |
