Majority of people against BJP-PDP alliance: Survey | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 15: That the PDP-BJP alliance will not go down well with the people in J&K and rest of the country for obvious reasons was never in doubt, but no one had hoped that only a microscopic minority would appreciate the alliance between what late Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed said south Pole and North Pole. But it has happened. An overwhelming majority of those who expressed their view on the PDP-BJP alliance and formation of another PDP-BJP coalition government in J&K expressed itself against those who were in favour PDP-BJP re-alliance. The latest survey conducted by a leading national daily has certainly vindicated the critics of the BJP-PDP alliance and those who had opposed the BJP's desperate attempts at re-stitching alliance with the PDP. According to the survey, as many as 82.64% of the total respondents have opposed the idea of the BJP re-aligning itself with the PDP to form government in J&K. Only 16.20 per cent of the respondents have endorsed the suggestion, while 1.16 per cent of the respondents have not given their opinion in favour of or against. The difference between the supporters and critics of the ongoing talks over PDP-BJP re-alliance is huge. The reasons are not far to seek and the most important reasons is that the people across the nation do not really appreciate the ideology and policies of the Kashmiri party and despise and reject the BJP's U-turns. The findings of the survey in a way constitute a no-confidence in those who forged an alliance with the Jammu-based BJP and Kashmir-based PDP. Now that a very vast majority has disapproved of the BJP's desperate moves aimed at becoming part of the state government, the question to be asked is: Will the BJP respect the people's verdict and seek a fresh mandate to end political uncertainty in the sensitive border state of J&K? It is difficult to say if the BJP will respect the findings of the survey and seek a fresh mandate considering the party's credentials, antics and its political character and past behaviour. |
