Anantnag maternity hospital: Serviceable items put in auction list | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Feb 15: In what could turn out to be a major scam, authorities at Maternity and Child Care hospital Anantnag are allegedly mulling to auction even costly serviceable items at throw away prices. Informed sources told Early Times that committee setup by the health department allegedly in nexus with a bidder has declared some important and costly items as unserviceable but in reality the items are in service. They said that hospital authorities have put the unserviceable items mainly chairs, beds and other stuff in hospital premises for auctioning the same; however the items mentioned in the list as unserviceable items including oxygen constrainers, beds which are being used in Operation Theater are in use or have been dumped by the authorities. "This is a major scam in offing, committee hasn't followed the rules. Firstly they should have sought the details about the stock available but they are trying to cover wrongdoings of many officers who have dumped valuable items," an officer pleading anonymity told Early Times. He said that many items have gone missing in past years and it was right time for Director Health Services Kashmir to expose the thieves. Officer said that few years ago, department replaced wooden windows of the hospital with aluminum windows but the timber of wooden windows has gone missing and no one bothers to enquire. Sources said that authorities responsible for auctioning the unserviceable items have dumped beds each costing above 2 lakh rupees in a room inside the hospital. "They (Committee) wants to auction the bulk at lowest rate in hurry and desires to sell the valuable items to private nursing houses," sources revealed. They said that hospital staff has also demanded item vise auction of the unserviceable items to stop authorities from selling serviceable and costly items under the grab of auction. Interestingly, a committee member on being contacted said that he was unaware about such auction. "I am not aware about the auction neither anybody from the department has shared with me such information or list of unserviceable items," he said. On being contacted Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, Dr Fazil Kochak assured that proper procedure will be followed for auctioning the unserviceable items. |
