Nonpayment of MGNREGA: Agitated locals hold protest, call on DC

Kishtwar, Feb 15: The people of Panchayat Fillar-A of Thakrie block of Kishtwar district today held a strong protest against Rural Development Department (RDD) in front of Office of Deputy Commissioner
Kishwtar and demanded early release of pending MGNREGA wages.
Protestors alleged that officials at helms of affairs are providing the jobs and releasing the payments to blue eyed people only.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the agitated locals from Panchayat Filler-A today assembled outside office of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and staged a protest in support of the demand of release of wages.
Led by Firdous Ahmed Mingnoo and Irfan Ahmed Shah, the protestors also alleged that less payments were given to the job card holders of the Panchayat as compared to job card holders of other Panchayats.
Later the agitating people bunged the DC Kishtwar and apprised him about the problem faced by the people. They informed DC Kishtwar that instead of assured Rs 7500 payment, the department deposited Rs. 2000 to 3000 in job card holders, beside pick and choose policy was adopted by some employees of the department.
After giving patience hearing to the issue raised by the people, DC Kishtwar assured them that he will look into the matter and also clarified to the people that no job card holders will get any payments without doing any work. He also directed BDO Thakrie to look into the issue and also directed him to take action against non performing employee including social auditor. When contacted DBO Thakrie Saboor Ahmed Shad said that over 90% liability has been cleared by the department in the block. He said that they are vigorously following the case of release of pending liabilities and said that as and when they receive, the same will be cleared. Referring to allegations of protestors, he rejected the allegations and said that department is ready for any scrutiny and audit if ordered by the authorities.
