Early Times Report Jammu, March 18: The Principal of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College Ajeet Angral today inaugurated Lecture series on Phonetics here at college campus. Prof. Ruth K. Masehi welcomed the Chief Guest, Resource person, Faculty members and the participants. In her address, Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Head, Department of English elucidated the purpose of conducting the Lecture-Series. She said that proficiency in English Communication Skills is the need of present day job market and keeping in view its importance the department of English has conducted this event. She maintained that in the present context it has become an essential component of curriculum. Training in phonetics will help the students enhancing their professional skills. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ajeet Angral, principal of the institution congratulated the department for coming up with such a programme for the benefit of the students and added that in this globalized era a professional cannot survive without learning and honing the skills of the language. He maintained that the students need to master Communication Skills viz reading, writing, listening and speaking in order to become successful. The resource person on the occasion was Dr. Reena Salaria from department of Functional English. She delivered a series of lectures on Phonetics and acquainted the students with Phonetic alphabet, sounds, words, syllables, stress, transcription etc. During the session the students were given practical training in Spoken English and Pronunciation. All the faculty members of the department were present on the occasion. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Ruth K Masehi. |
